Plastic Bags for feet
« on: June 11, 2010, 04:03:08 PM »
Ok, I've seen two eotwawki movies recently that showed the main character(s) using plastic to line what was left of shoes (boxes) or simply wrapped their feet in duct tape.

That sounds like a quick way to trench foot to me, so I figured I'd ask around.

In very cold temps it is done to keep socks from getting wet from sweat. I don't know how long and how often a person could get by with it, my feet sweat tremendously. I would have to agree with your concerns.

All I know about plastic bags on the feets is that Mom always put us in socks & shoes, then plastic bags and galoshes (which didn't always work as advertized below :))...

The text says - "Rainy rain, you cannot hurt me. I would not go out without galoshes. Because of Rezinotrest [Soviet rubber-industry trust] every place is dry for me. Sold everywhere."

The foot like the rest of the body is constantly shedding moisture. Trapping it in a plastic bag doesn't should like the path to healthy feet to me either TN.

the infantry teaches you how important foot care is.   plastic bags around the feet is ridiculous.  only idiots that dont know any better would do something like that (i.e. hollywood types).

Its one the main points taught in arctic wildlands survival, the main point it to provide a vapor barrier to trap heat next to the skin like if you survive a plan crash and have no winter boots the demonstration stressed useing seat back foam and trash bag and duct tape to make a insulated slipper that your feet wont freeze, they do stress keeping your feet dry and insulated.
