Drew 1st blood with new Rem .223
« on: June 06, 2010, 10:29:28 PM »
Just had to brag a little about my new Rem model 7 in .223.Have been doing a lot of shooting at the range, but this is actually the first chuck I killed with it (at point blank range).
I was walking on a dirt track road that ran between a tree farm and the woods to the left. The rifle was slung over my shoulder with 3 rounds in the magazine (none in chamber).So.. this chuck pops up in a small clear cut in the woods to my left no more than 15 yard away!.Like Abbott & Costello routine..SLOOOOwly I Inslung the rifle, chambered a round and popped off lens covers as  shouldered it.
Surprisingly (for the chuck and I both) it just looked at me and  then finally let out a "whistle" (now I know why they're sometimes called whistle pig). That was the end of that.Luckily the scope was turned down to 4x (goes to 14x) and I popped it rolling it head over heels.

Great rifle...
I would much rather see a wood stocked rifle, even if it does have some battle scars

Nice job.  Sometimes the close ones are more fun than the far ones.
It's all a hot mess...........
