SAVAGE smokeless BLOWUP...
« on: May 20, 2010, 01:02:54 AM »
I received an Email with pics and explanation.

I do not post to bash anyone, I merely wish to impress the dangers. I now own and will continue to buy and use Savage products.

It's pretty gruesome. I would like to post for all to see, but wonder if the pics are appropriate...
The poor fellow lost part of his thumb and has extensive damage to his left hand. the gun looks as you would expect, the barrel split right in front of the receiver.

BEWARE> GRAPHIC PICTURE follows!

I have a couple more pics, but they are even more graphic and don't want to offend. I can send complete orig Email to anyone who would like them, just PM/ post up a addy to send.

Moderator, I will post or can send to you for approval the remaining pics. This is a link to those pics, please delete if you feel it is not appropriate. http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v465/CWLONGSHOT/Temp%20stuff/Savage%20blowup/

If you have one of these PLEASE BE CAREFUL!!!

If people would just stick to the suggested loads everything would be just fine.  The Savage is the very best inline IMO.

I'd say they used the wrong powder.  The split doesn't look like an obstructed bore.

LOL..

No guys I do not own this model, but I have fired one more than a couple times. My good friend has one of the early versions with the half cased, steel, 223 case for priming. I have a number of Savage products and will continue to use them. I have always been concerned with smokeless powder used I this gun. I am certain its OPERATOR ERROR.

My Muzzle loaders are a couple T/C Renegades (50 and 54cal) and a Hawken, a Lyman Trade Rifle, a H&R Sidekick and a early  KNIGHT MK85.

WARNING!!!!!!!

Magnumnitis in muzzle loaders my be detrimental to ones health.

Seriously though, why is it that some people need that extra fps to kill something?  It won't be long before some yahoo's will think that a 50bmg will be a great all-round hunting rig. Able to kill everything on this earth, whats not to like? ::) & possible to fill all your tag's with just one shot...if placed just right ;D

I volunteer as a hunter ed instructor in New Mexico. This story surfaced here and one of our instructors wrote to Savage. This is the story we have here (moral of the story? be careful what you read.) :

Subject: FW: NM Savage Model 10MLSS .50 caliber Muzzleloader Rifle
Date: Wed, 14 Apr 2010 08:19:32 -0600
From: jennifer.morgan@state.nm.us

Instructors:

This email is in response to a message w/photos that I sent out last month regarding the Savage muzzleloading rifle that utilizes smokeless powder. One of our local instructors sent the chain to Savage to investigate. Savage replied that this email chain is a hoax and the correct information is provided in the link below if you wish to read the whole story.

Subject: NM Savage Model 10MLSS .50 caliber Muzzleloader Rifle

This e-mail has permeated the net as a ‘scare tactic’ to discredit Savage Arms and the reputation we have gained for safety and reliability.  We will not justify its existence or the political/personal motives behind it by issuing a formal response.  We will however point to an independent article which clearly covers many aspects involved ( http://randywakeman.com/HowToBlowUpASavage10ML.htm ).

I really did not mean that I think what happened is funny, my comment stands

I also suspect that it was rigged up to explode and the accompanying photos are from something different altogether.

who knows...

be careful out there.

I too have received this email and photos.  I don't personally like using smokeless powder in an inline ML rifle!  I consider this a very dangerous proposition.  There are too many Murphy's out there for my liking.  I think Savage should not have gotten into this game with this gun.

As usual thia is all IMHO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just another voice in the crowd!!!
