remington 597 22lr FIXED THE PROBLEM!!!!
« on: May 19, 2010, 06:11:27 PM »
My son has a model 597 22lr. The gun groups fairly well for an ot of the box gun, however it will not shoot through a full clip without at least on or two stovepipes. we have stripped the gun and deep cleaned the action with Tetra gun action blaster, re-oiled and reassembeled the gun. Took it out and it functioned prefectly for two clips the back to its old tricks. Any of you boys had the same problem? but more importantly have you got any solutions?

Thanks
Bill

How many different types/brands of ammo have you put through it?

Sounds just like the one I USED to own. For me the quickest fix was a gunshow trade. Good luck. I think I still have the extra clips Remington sent me.

I ordered a Volquartsen Extractor for the 597, installed it this afternoon and took it out for a test run. It worked flawlesly! I fed it all kinds of 22 ammo I had laying arround, good stuff and cheap bulk plinking ammo. I even fed it some I found laying on the ground! The gun fed it and fired it!! I only have one question, why can't Remington produce an extractor that works for this rifle? I've read on several other sites that this is a common problem with this model? I really like the look and feel of this gun and it groups fairly well out of the box.

I have also read that the proper torque on the bolt slide rods can affect the rifle, congrats on fixing it with the Volquartsen.
