My neighbor said he wouldn't think of having a firearm in his house. I told him I'd make up a sign and put it on his lawn that this house has no guns. I told him my house will have a sign we have guns inside and all occupants fire on sight. We'll give it a week and see which house is hit first.

I go visit and old High School buddy every year for a couple of months.  Larry is very liberal, and an anti gun nut.  Aside from that we get along pretty good.  His wife has a concealed carry permit and she carries.  Her first husband got her her first permit and a couple of pistols.  They have had a few arguments about her carrying her pistols when we go out to dinner.  I carry concealed and he never knows I am carrying.  Every Friday I accompany him to the bank for his weekly deposits, and to bring back a weeks worth of cash for the business to operate on.  Larry says he feels better when I am with him, he does not think anyone would try and jump two men.  I feel what Larry don't know won't hurt him.

Febuary 2009:  Friday night 1 hour after closing.  I was sitting at a computer behind a large cabinet working on some graphics.  Larry was doing his weekly accounting.  Two men came to the door.  Larry had not pulled the metal security door down and locked it since we were going to be leaving soon by the front door, and would do it then.  Suddenly one of the men kicked the door and the flimsy lock on the inner door gave way.  They came in one fellow brandishing a large Crocadille DunDee type knife, and confronting Larry at his desk.  Hearing a noise, but not knowing what was happening I got up and stepped around the cabinet.  The second person pulled a folding knife, flipped the blade out, and started telling me what he was going to do to me.  I reached inside my jacket and pulled my Ruger P-85.  The guy coming at me turned pale, he spun around yelling "The son XX X XXXXX has a gun".  Both men ran for the door.  The second guy was hurrying so hard he ran into the big knife his partner was holding, and got cut.  The last we saw of them they were running down the street.

Larry got up from his desk and walked to the back of the shop while I locked the metal grate.  When Larry returned he had a pistol in his hand, a Colt .38 Spl.  Larry laid the pistol on the desk and said "Rog I need to learn how to shoot that, and we need to go get some bullets".  "That was my Dad's gun, he kept it in the desk".  When he died I did not feel it was needed and put it back in the safe.  Now I think it is needed back in the desk drawer.  "Where did you get that gun you had in your hand"?  I told him I had a concealled Carry permit and that is just what it means, concealled carry.  No one knows you are carrying it till it is needed.

Today not only is the .38 in the desk, but he carries a .380 behind his belt.

That was pretty good, I think I will get a bumper sticker like that.
Or would that be considered baiting? LOL

Roger,

It's a darn good thing you were there... your friends "wake up call" probably would have ended up badly otherwise.

Spanky:  You should have heard what his wife had to say.  She is the one that got him the .380.  One of the last things she says as they are leaving the house, "You got your gun"?  She won't let him be without it again.

in a discussion with a lady i know.. she made the comment that i scare her by always carrying a gun..
she said i was just paranoid.. i told her better to be that than dumb an dead..
i m known to be friendly an out going.. but expect the best an be ready for the worst ,,is what i live by [so far]..hope she don t have to learn the cold hard facts of real world living ,,the hard way..
she ll be lucky if the first lesson in reality is not the last..lesson won t do her much good if she s dead..jmo slim
ps i recently gave my son my 20 ga. with an assortment of ammo .. he promptly put it in his gun safe down staires,, from where he an his family reside.. i felt like id just wasted my efforts to encourage him to be able to protect his family in case of home invasion..just wasted effort on my part,i felt..now the dang thief gets that gun an the rest of his guns..
that before he kills him an his family..but to each his own.. his ignorance puts my grand kids in danger as hes wealthy an will sooner or later,, be targeted by  thieves..hes got an alarm system but lives at least 25 min from the nearest law enforcement..it would take less than 10 min.to get his guns, money ,credit cards an pin number..
hed give it all up if the thief was holding a gun to his kids head..all negotiations go out the window if someones threating to shoot your 3 yr old..all he could do is pray an he don t act like he even believes in god anymore...
im proud ofem for a lot of things.. but these are not things im proud of him for..id really hate to bury a son an daughter in law.. but id be real mad that they allowed my grandchildren to be killed....modern crooks ,,don t leave witnesses..jmo

Slim, you are right there.  I know that mankind has always been evil (wasn't it Paul who referred to his time as 'this wicked generation'?) but it just seems that in the present day people have totally lost their marbles.   You're right, they wouldn't hesitate to kill a 3 yo any more than they would an adult.  I never cease to be amazed at man's capacity for cruelty.  I never cease to be sickened by it, either.
