Zaleski Acorns???
« on: August 09, 2010, 07:33:19 AM »
Hi All,

Anybody been in or around Zaleski State Forest recently?  Just curious for information regarding acorns.  Seems the last 10+ years at Zaleski the mast has been spotty at best and without any particular pattern.   Since my friends and I don't get much time to scout prior to deer gun season we always end up marching around the woods the day after Thanksgiving looking for gray squirrels.  Usually if there is a bunch of squirrels in the neighborhood the odds of having backstrap for dinner seem to go up.

thanks

I live about 20 miles from zaleski state forest and the place is overrun with acorns. Last year was a complete crop failure, but they have really taken off this year. I think it was from all the early rains we got. I have also heard that the pig population is increasing so don't be surprized if you don't jump a few pigs while hunting there. If pigs are on your list check out hunt hollow road up on the powerline cuts. Good luck.
