"How To" Videos
« on: May 24, 2010, 03:43:20 AM »
Here are a few "How To" videos I've made and posted on You Tube that I thought some of you might like.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KutvmgReLyo

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2KC4D09_Xu8

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JEOP0nwYIc4

I've been building Traditional Arrows for many years and started video taping some of the things I've learned and putting them on You Tube to help others interested.  Hope y'all enjoy.

Yep, me to.  I'm already thinking of creating "Cottonwoods Den" or something like that, as we really do not have a Traditional Only supplier in my area.  The local archery shop that I go to, admits he knows nothing about traditional archery, and only stocks a few item, a few recurves and longbows that are production stuff like PSE, Samick and TradTech which is also Samick brand aka China.  The Samick's are a good enterance recurve and especially with the new Sage TD that can be had from 3Rivers for just $119.00 plus shipping.

But I want to endevor into the laminated longbows from the rough to the finish.

I love these How To Videos that guy's like our All Hawks Kill produces.  I would carry them on DVD if he would make them, after I get started up.  I have to get my shop going first, then my bowers tools etc.

But it is what I intend on doing, as a side hobby and small business.

Sorry guys if I've got you jumping off a cliff........... ;)

That is how it got me as well.  I've made my own arrows for many years but to make them in this style all started because of my daughter's wedding.  She decided on a Medieval style wedding with everyone going in costume.  Well for some reason, both my daughter and wife thought I should go a an archer.  Well I did have a longbow, but I needed period correct clothes and arrows.  The clothes I ordered, but after seeing the price of period correct arrows I decided to try and make my own.  Truth be know, it would have been cheaper just ordering the arrows as I went through a lot of shafts before I figured out how to do the self nocks.  It was also very addictive making arrows like that and I knew there would be others that would like to learn how.  So that's why I made the videos, so folks like you don't have to go through as much trail and error.

Let me know if you have any questions, and yes if you would like to carry these "How To" videos I'd be very happy to provide them.  In fact, they would be far better than the ones I put on You Tube.

It's all coming together.  I just found out that a club I belong to will be hosting a primitave archery rendevous this month.  No way out of it.  With these old tech arrows flying all around me, I have to get in on the fun.

(If anybody is interested, the rendevous is at Highland Rod and Gun on June 26,27 in Foster RI.)

We also have the Traditional Bowhunters of Montana Longbow Safari coming up:

http://www.tradbowmt.org/Pages/News_Events.html

The wonderful thing about the Traditional shoots, is that if you have arrow issues or bow issues, there are pleanty of very old salts that are more than willing to lend you a hand, to solve any issue problems.  Its a very pleasurable enviroment to be in, and no my bow is better than your bow snobs.

Yes I'm going to come up with some more, but haven't had a lot of orders for arrows lately so I haven't been in the shop much.

Do you have any subjects you would like to see?  I really specialize in Medieval Style arrows, so I don't do a lot of cresting, but anything else I'm game.

Yes I do have something AllHawks! How about a video of you shooting your arrows with the wrapped fletching and selfnocks from an english longbow, and doing the shooting for accuracy. Maybe have a bullseye medieval type target set up? Thanks! scout4<><

We can do something like that, but my longbow isn't an old English Style.  I'm shooting a Marriah Chinook which is 66inch and 55@28.  I've been thinking on getting a English Style bow and shooting glove, but just haven't as yet.

All Hawks Kill, would that be a Marriah Custom Bow from Rick Anderson in Whitefish, MT now would it.  And look something like one of these fine works of art http://www.marriahcustombows.com/chinook.html

I work with his son Cory.

Cotton Yes Sir, that it is.  I'm telling you this is really a small world.  First we had a Hawaii connection and now this, it is a small world.  I've had my Chinook for the better part of 15 years and it shoots as good today as it did when I first got it.  It isn't as pretty today as it's seen many trips in the field, but it is still pretty to me.  I did have to send it back to Rick for repair when I cracked the tip about 8 years ago, and how I cracked the tip is a long story I'd rather not remember.  I'm currently saving my money up for one of Rick's recurves....;)

Scout, I've got to go on a business trip next week but I'll work on the video when I get back if the skeeters aren't too bad....:D

Here is a couple of pictures of my Chinook.....

All Hawks Kill, that is a very nice bow.  We are blessed in my area to have several fine bowers such as Mirriah Bows, Toelke Bows, Schafer Silvertip Bows to name a few.  Some you have to have deeper pockets for.  Marriah bows is one of those you don't, but like the others, you will wait for your bow from the time its ordered..... about a year from the date of order.

I was lucky when I found Rick and Marriah bows as mine was already built.  Of course back in those days he had a couple ready as he wasn't getting as many orders as I bet he does today.

I was waiting for Cory to bring in his Marriah Chinook, but the deal on my other two bows came in first.  One of these days, I just might get on Team Marriah, as I still want to see Cory's Chinook.  But for now, I'm on Team Bama  ;D

Well I shot for the first time in 4 months this past weekend.  The ole shoulder is stiff and the groups were not pretty.  So Scout you are going to have to give me a month or so to get things back in shape before I do your video...... ;)
