Encore wouldn't stay cocked.
« on: June 07, 2010, 02:53:44 PM »
Hi guys...I've reading this board for a fews months now waiting for a chance to chime in with something.  At the range today I noticed that my T/C Encore was developing a very light trigger and the hammer seemed to slip a few times.  Finally, the hammer would not stay cocked at all.  Just as I was about to call T/C, I removed the grip and forend to inspect things and found that the hammer would now cock and everything functioned correctly.  I replaced the grip and the trouble reappeared so I loosened the grip bolt a little to see what would happen...well it works again.  Seems like my Encore does not like a tight grip bolt.  Has anyone here had this happen to them or is it something that I should get checked out by T/C?    I've had guns all my life but I just got my Contender six months ago...now I have three.  Thanks for your input and this excellent forum.......Mike

I had that problem with a G2, what I did was ad a flat washer between frame stud and grip and helped a little so added one more and problem solved. seems that the hammer was contacting the stock before it was fully cocked you might check that real close, might solve your problem.

I have some nylon washers that I will try...I was thinking that the problem is the rubber grip compressing. My other Encore has walnut wood grips so I am going to change them and see if that helps.  Thanks

I think your problem is the bolt is too long and contacting the internal parts causing a problem. Adding a washer under the bolt head will back the bolt out a little and I think take care of your problem.

A 1/4 inch split lock washer should do. You can flatten the washer to negate the 'lock'. A small O.D. washer may be
tricky to locate. Check the inside of the grip for any wear that could interfere with the bolt. There is no cure for
'Contender Fever'. Treat syptoms with additional barrels.

The extra washers solved the problem.  I also had the bolt snugged down way too much...I have a tendency to do that.  Thanks for the suggestions.  This "Contender fever" is getting really expensive but it sure is fun...can't decide what barrel to get next but I will figure it out.
