I think my favorite is still the 1.5 longspring either single spring, or with the additon of a second spring "making" it a #2 double longspring. I like the weight of the trap, and I like the results. Some say too bulky, but thats never a problem in the areas I trap rats.

the dls is nice, because with the addition of 2 sticks through the springs, bank or hut sets can be made with little efort or fuss.

But the one I use the most, is still the 1.5 coil, simply because I got far more of them.

The traditonal rat trap in the big marshes here was always the #1 longspring, but unless using a stoploss type, I find them to give me more wringoffs, simply due to the lighter trap not taking them down fast enough.

I trapped as a kid up till an adult here in Colorado (pre-1996). Great times, nothing big...short lines for Muskrats, Beaver, Coons and Fox and Coyotes. Such good times.

At the end, just before we lost our trapping privilages, I really liked the 1.5 coil for Muskrats. I trapped a nice little crick in western Weld County in those days, and the little 1.5 really filled the bill.

The 110 conibear was another "go to" for me as well.

Miss those days.

Because I always ran my coon line before I set for rats and don't do lots of rats. For many years I use to use the dirty 1 1/2 dj coils from my coon line for rats. Now I try not to have to move traps around on their stakes and rigging during season. So I sold a bunch of my odd mix traps and bought all #1 duke stoploss type traps for rats. I still have lots of 110s even use some 160s, but the duke 1# guarded do the bulk of my rat trapping now.

I had a little stretch of feeder stream that was shallow and the stoploss worked wonders for me.  8)

Absolutely nothing wrong with Dukes--they have taken thousands of animals for me. All Dukes have also been revamped in the last couple of years.
