Swamp Gun Completed
« on: June 13, 2010, 03:15:49 PM »
Here's my new swamp gun for hunting whitetail deer in the U.P. of Michigan.

I took the stock and forend off of my Survivor 45LC/410 and put it on my 30.06 and loved it! 13" LOP fits me perfect. Recoil is much milder than I expected. I was taking a 44mag Ruger to Magna Port to get some work done so I took the 30.06 H&R and had them install the back up Iron Sights. The rear green ramp is off my TC Omega and Magna Port supplied the Red Front. Topped it off with a Leupold VXIII 2.5-8x36 with their aluminum scope covers and some Warne QD Rings. All the neet "just in case supplies" fit inside the stock. I can break the gun down totally and put it inside my backpack if needed. Trigger pulls at a nice 3.5 lbs.! Gun is deadly accurate, better than my old Remington 742 carbine that I used to use.

Very nice.  I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who spends as much as, or more than the cost of a rifle on quality glass.

Sweet little rifle ;D  Where are ya hunting on Da U.P.?  I'm about seven miles north of Engadine.  Maybe we can get together.  Are you going to draw a bear tag this year?  We're almost done with first cutting hay and alfalfa and we're in the middle of a wildlife management select cut.  Hunting should be good here this Fall.

Hi Pete,

I (We) hunt down in the southern end of the Stonington Peninsula and sometimes off of 509. I drew bear tags the last 2 years and never made it up to hunt. Gwinn area. First year my Dad was terminally ill and last year was too busy with work. I was going to hunt with the guys that own Rapid River Knife Works. They have a great deal on baited blinds with like a 90% success rate if I remember right. I didn't even apply for a tag this year.

Patty...................you're not my wife posting here ??? ??? :'(  If ya are, I'm in big trouble :o :o  Her name is Patty and she's a Handi owner also.  Don't tell her I told you, but the lady outshoots me every time.....her eyes are six months younger than mine......yeah, sure, something to blame it on.

I'd like that lighter barrel on a Survivor.  Enjoy, and good shooting.

That's pretty cool. Did you put any kind of recoil pad on the Survivor stock?

No recoil pad at all! Thought about it, figured out how to do it, but in the end decided it wasn't necessary. I was even thinking about having the barrel ported while it was at Magna Port, but that really only controls muzzle "jump" and not recoil. So it really doesn't make sense to Port a single shot gun.
