About to order a stainless barrel in .223 Rem from MGM and am seeking some advice on barrel length.
Action is stainless and stock walnut
Idea is to build a light-weight takedown carbine [I already have a heavy barreled varminter]
Barrel will be standard factory profile
As its a take-down I want the barrel to be as short as practicable. Not unduly concerned about velocity loss but don't want to overly compromise accuracy. Had considered something as short as 16".

Super 16 (16 1/4 inches) should do you well. All of mine have shot great.

Unless velocity loss is substantial, a short barrel doesn't adversely affect accuracy. I have a Contender handgun barrel in 223 AI that shoots VERY well so I don't think a 16 inch rifle barrel would be a problem at all and MGM makes EXCELLENT barrels.

I've got a buddy that has a Contender with a 16" 223 barrel. That thing is very accurate. Ditto on what was aid above, as long as the velocity loss is not drastic, accuracy is not determined by barrel length.

Thanks for the advice - inspires confidence - now for the complex process of paperwork involved in importing a barrel to Australia
