Thanks to Fredster, I've got a NIB 7.62 X 39 coming out of Guns Galore in Killeen TX.  Sorry guys, I think it was their last one. :'(  Now for dies, brass and bullets.

Gendoc,

The cartridge drawings I have show a 308 winchester & 30-06 to be .308 bullet and a 7.62x39 to be a .311 bullet.  Does your 7.62x39 have a small bore diameter?  Just curious as I have never loaded for the little communist round.

Anybody measure the diameter of a Wolf 7.62x39 steel core bullet?  Maybe a little tight?

bb, first off... the handi was not designed to shoot steel, berdan primed milsurp junk....
if it was... it failed !!!! thats why they stopped production.
and thats when i decided to see just exactly what it took to make it a performer.
my 39 is 309.11  and my son's is 309.26
and in the past i have had a few of these special rifles come to me, for other reasons.
and none were past 309.82
please don't get these confused with the ak/sks world of auto/"assault" weapons.

if you ever measured there bore... you would be surprized at the outcome too.... :o

simular to my last build...i studied the 39 for about 3 months. and found for my preference of distance and projectile, the .308 speer 130gr hp #2005 performed amazingly for my needs.

it don't get no better than that, if i say so myownself !!!!!! ;D

Thanks for the education on this caliber.  I like to learn as much about handloading as I can, you never know when the knowledge will be valuable.

I'm not the only one to thank, shvlhead.45 pointed me in the direction of Guns Galore. I just happened to see the rifle on the wall once I made it inside.

Have fun with it, doesn't look like we'll ever get either one of those two rifles in the Classifieds....... ;D

No Dinny, they won't be in the classifieds....thems that's gots em keeps em.  It sounds like Guns Galore is a place I'd love to live next door to ;D  I haven't been able to talk to my FFL.  I left Ray a message to fax his license down there, but I don't know yet if it's been done.  The rifle is bought and paid for, so they'll wait for the info I'm sure.

Thanks guys for the diet information for the new baby.

DP, you and I together will never catch up with Tim.....we can't possibly live long enough.

I've gotta sell some traditional muzzleloaders I don't use much because of their open sights to make some room for all these Handis ;)

Fred tipped me off too (a BIG thanks to Fredster22, Dinny and shvlhead.45 for finding these!) I just picked mine up from the FFL.
NICE. REAL NICE Brand new in box 7.62x39 NV prefix.
Can't wait to give it a try.....might have to wait a little bit tho....I am off to Boy Scout camp this Saturday for a week :-\ Oh well that will be fun too ;D ....just have to be patient.
