When the sun came up this morning it hit the mirror on the dresser and reflected right in my face. Flash, I'm awake, can't get back to sleep. June and July are killers up here. The sun goes down a little after midnight, and is back up at 3:30. It does not get dark, just twilight for a few hours. Finally got up at 4:30, went out on the front porch and sat down in the swing.
Been there about 10 minutes when I realized there was a Moose lying in amoungst the birches about 20 yards from the porch. She just laid there dozing. Another 5 minutes and the Rabbits came out. Actually SnowShoe Hares. Their feet are still white, the rest of their bodies are brown. A short while later and I saw grouse moving in the wild roses. Mallards kept flying over the porch, circling to land on Norman's pond down the street. Robins everywhere. Heard Geese and Cranes in the gravel pit behind my property. That is why the mallards are staying at Norm's pond.
It's so quite and peaceful this time of the morning. Just sitting here typing on my lap top as I swing. There must be a hundred little birds flying to and from my bird feeder at the edge of the porch. More rabbits are out now, eight that I can count. I think there is more out in the Birches, but can't see there well. Two just ran under the porch, and have not came back out.
Well it's 5:20 now and the Moose got up. She is brousing around the willows amoungst the Birches. They like those fresh willow shoots. She is a young cow, last years calf. Mama probably kicked her out so she can attend to her new baby this spring. I've seen this one for the last week hanging around the area. Norm says he has a Cow and New Calf hanging around the pond. Glad there is no Wolves or Bears in the area right now. I like the quite peacefulness.
Well the paperboy just came up the street, so I quess I'll walk out and get the paper and see what is going on in the world, or maybe I'll just throw it on the porch and wait till later.
