Sure got me ticked off....
« on: June 13, 2010, 04:39:32 PM »
The new place of the daughter's is a nice piece of land, with a nice little creek bottom, several stands of hardwoods, and some thinned pine forest with lots of shooting lanes.  It also has a lot of deer and turkey sign on it.

I made a good walk over this week, and it really ticked me off...literally.  I lost count of the deer ticks I had on me, some in places I didn't know I had.

I will be picking up the guinea's Tuesday evening.  They are still young and will have to stay in the cage for a short  time until they can fare on their own.  I'm told they will do away with or at least minimize the fine crop of ticks we have growing!

Oh, and by the way, somewhere on the forums I read that putting Dawn dishwashing liquid on a cotton ball over the tick will make it turn loose....didn't work.  Brake cleaner did, (I know, but I'm a mechanic).

In the meanwhile, if anyone can come up with a good use for ticks, please let me know...

Man I hate those things. I went fishing today and yesturday evening. Both times I got home and found ticks on me.
The neighbors dog stops by the house for a meal or a good scartching sometimes and I will usually remove the ticks off of him. I found that those little alchohal swabs they use when you get a shot works pretty good for removing ticks. The alchohal makes them release and you don't have to grab the tick with your bare fingers.

I never heard guinea's would reduce the tick population. Come to think of it I never heard of anything eating a tick before. ???

Sack them ticks up and send them to Washington. They will be right at home with all those maingy critters up there. ;D

Guinea's will help with ticks as will turkeys.  The guineas will make a great watch dog and go after snakes as well.  We always had 8 or 10 on the farm when I was growing up.  DP
