Model 7615 in .223
« on: June 18, 2010, 10:36:55 AM »
I use to have a bushmaster A/R 15. Unfotunatly I had to sell it several years ago because of money issues. I'm looking for and intermediate range weapon for hunting g-hogs and cyotes. Would like the ability of a follow up shot without being semi auto.  Been checking out the 7615. Never had a pump rifle before.  Does anyone have one? If so, what are the pros and cons? Are they worth the money? I would appreciate any info or feedback I could get. Thanks

Not known for outstanding accuracy, although probably good enough to get the job done at the ranges you mentioned.

Personally I'd go bolt action, but that is just me.  I'd be willing to bet that I'm damn near as fast with a bolt as I am with a pump (and being able to get back on target).  Plus I got my 700 SPS Tactical in .223 for $560 (not great, but not bad), and it is a solid .5MOA performer with handloads after I bedded it in a McM A5 stock and took the trigger down.  Factory, I'd say that you should have no problem keeping them under MOA as the SPS Tacs have a somewhat decent rep for their accuracy.  Plus with a 20" barrel they are a bit more portable than other varmint models.  The only downside for me is the 1:9 twist.  Great for 55-69gr bullets (mine loves the 68gr Hornady and 69gr SMK), but I was hoping that I could stabilize the 75gr A-Max, which I personally can't in mine.  The 60gr V-Max should be fine and work wonders on killing things.

Just my personal opinion, YMMV.  Good luck.

Thanks for the feedback Diggler. I've not made up my mind what I want just yet. I've had semi autos and I've got bolt guns. The reason I was checkin' out the pumps was for somthin' different. Gave me some things to think about though. Appreciate the response.
