i loveee federal truballs....
« on: November 27, 2010, 09:18:43 AM »
The last 2 years i have been shooting the low recoil tru ball slugs in my smoothbore mossberg and mannn are they nasty. Last year i shot a doe on the run and it went in her left buttcheek and the slug was found buried on top of the far shoulder. 2nd day of gun season this year i shot a doe at about 25 yards right in the pocket of the shoulder she took about 3 leaping bounds and the 2nd shot went put her down hard. Before season starts gander usually has them for 2 bucks a box or so after rebates and they are smooth recoiling.....anyone else have good or bad to say about them?

It sounds like you're getting great performance. If it works don't fix it. Maybe I'll have to try some myself.

I tried them for the first time this year. They are like me and cheap! That is a good thing. I also use a Mossy 500 12 ga smoothbore. I was real pleased with the accuracy. Only problem I had, after shooting 2 deer opening morning with my H&R .357 max I quit dragging my Mossy around :D Oh well maybe next year. :)

i have been shooting these out a of a modified mossberg 195 and can get a 5 shot group about the size of a soft ball at 50 yds . These things are the most accurate slug that I can find for my smooth bore guns

Didn't know there was a low recoil Tru-Ball. But I did try the Federal Vital-Shok TruBall Rifled Slug in my Ithaca DeerSlayer a couple years back. It was accurate, but it kicked like a mule (even worse than the “German” Brenneke 1 1/8oz slug). I had to give up on it, my dental work was loosing up.
