Keep it or sell it?
« on: March 12, 2011, 09:24:20 AM »
Just got a carrierless breech plug.  Seems to work fine.  Is there any reason to keep the original or should I sell them?
This is the day the Lord has made.  I choose to rejoice and be glad in it.

I would keep it if I did not have another for back up/just in case. Kurt

I agree with Kurt.

The original plug isn't worth much, but it is better than nothing should you need a backup, unless you are shooting BH209, then it is nearly worthless. My local dealer was selling new ones a few years back for a whopping $6.99, I doubt you would get that much for one even if you paid the shipping.

Thanks Foe the replies.  I was pretty much thinking just like you.  Worth more as a back up than to sell.  Planning on shooting Blackhorn but have other powders on hand just in case.

I wouldn't use triple 777 powder with 209 primer ignition. It causes the dreaded crud ring inside your barrel and your breech plugs to really sieze up. Just relating past problems I've had, and also read up on some of Busta's input on using BH209 ....good stuff!!!!
