Please double check when doing research on the internet----
« on: April 01, 2012, 11:01:26 AM »
because there are alot of misinformation out there.

Here is an example that I found on one of my lines:

The parents of my great-great-grandfather John Wesley Warren are Richard/Rueben Warren and Nancy Sanders.

I do know that John Wesley's mother's name was Nancy but I haven't found out what her maiden name was.  I do know that Nancy was the head of the household on the 1850 Benton County, Alabama Census.  According to the information I found on Elizabeth Warren Garnett and Margaret Warren Phillips(daugthers of John Wesley) their grandparents were Rueben and Nancy Warren. Still there is no maiden name for Nancy.

Just another note on things I have had issues with on old census reports on is.
Birth dates may not be exact
Marriage dates may not be exact
Place of birth may not be correct for father or mother.
A lot of times names are not spelled correctly. Especially last names of Celtic or german origin
First names and middle names switched around. ( if they had a middle name )
Last name was shortened
They are a great source of information but sometimes you need to back it up with other documents.
Also prior to 1900 if there was a divorce or separation it may not have been done by a lawyer in very rural or remote locations and there is no record of it.
