FACA (FA' Collectors Assoc.) guns
« on: June 18, 2010, 01:30:51 PM »
Anyone seen the 500WE Nyati edition? I saw it referenced on the FA site. Though I am not in a postion to buy one, I would like to know what makes it unique.

I haven't been a FACA member for a few years, but I'd like to hear about this one, too.

So it sounds like for $40 you can be a member and are entitled to the periodicals, $100 you can have a special serial number assigned to FACA guns purchased. I like the idea of being more familiar with their history and gettin' news on new offerings.  I went ahead and sent them an e-mail request to sign-up this afternoon.

By the way Ken, thanks for the load breakdown of the 500WE. I read your review through GBO and Jeff Quinn's off Gunblast and they helped with my decision to buy a new FA. Though you mentioned the Sierra 400gr JSP's cannelure placement requires a crimp biased on the nose side to not exceed COL, it seemed the $22 price I paid will be worth the extra effort.

Per Linda at FA, it sounds like this Collectors Association is is probably just 1 or 2 people that do their best to respond to membership requests and, solicit ideas to FA about new offerings, while maintaining full time jobs. That explains why I hadn’t heard a response.

As soon as I hear a e-mail response, or get the publication in mail, I will post details about the 500WE Nyati.

I really don't want to be negative, so I didn't post this when I first responded, but the reason I dropped my membership a few years ago, was that I received the publication only on a very irregular basis - perhaps once or twice a year at best, although I'd originally understood it to be a quarterly publication. Articles submitted for publication would take more than a year (maybe two) to see ink.
Mr. Tuttle once told me that his biggest problem in publication was that people didn't pay their dues promptly, yet personally, in the several years I was a member, I NEVER received an invoice for dues, and always had to guess when they might be due. I have no doubt that the rest of the membership had the same problem. I suggested he could improve his situation by billing, but still never saw an invoice.
In those days Mr. Tuttle worked for the Miami Zoo as I recall, so FACA was a part time venture.

I received a response after one week. Information on the the gun referred to as the 'Nyati' was not discussed--only insofar as if I wanted to order one, pricing would have to be determined. I also asked about the fees associated with ordering all past publications--to no avail. What I was told is how to pay. At that point in time, I had already sent the money order.

My expectation is that I will receive something in the next month, nothing more.

The last issue I received was 9/09 and before that was 08/08.  The 12/05 issue shows the GRAND NYATI 500 WE in either 6 inch or 7 1/2 inch, it was a  model 83, PG, AS, AJ, trigger stop, magnaported, dies and shell holder, 1 box of unprimed brass (64 pieces) and serial numbered I-FACA XXX.  I tried to order one of the silver anniversary guns from Tuttle and finally gave up due to all the roadblocks and hassles.  I have no idea how many guns were made but I'm sure less than 10 and probably less than 5.
Good luck.
By the way:  The price in 2005 was $2300 and $2350 for the 71/2.

Thanks for chiming in and providing a description. Too bad that it became difficult for you to order one. Well, for what it's worth, I guess the existing Collector's editions are even more desirable, and valuable, as a result of the rift in communication.

I mentioned to Ken that what is strange is that it's such a 180 in respect to any and all conversation I have had with Freedom Arms. Sure am glad I opted to send only $40 as opposed to $100 for the enhanced membership.

Carlislegr,
I saw perhaps 10 or 12 Silver Anniversary guns in the walk-in safe at FA in May of 2009. Perhaps some are still available. If you're still interested, you might give them a call.

Ken, I have one of the fancy ones that were limited to 25.  This was a cheaper one that Tuttle was making for the Freedom Arms collectors association.  I wanted one with my reserved serial number but it was just too complicated and I gave up.

Just got the FACA package in the mail--and am pleased. Yeah, it took a while but the Journal looks well designed. Pretty well stocked with photo's and articles. I will crack it open now and give it a read.
