A couple of weeks ago I asked Dave if I could borrow his Knight Original DISC to get some measurments. I am not convinced that the Lehigh Gen II plug will not work in the majority of those guns also. I believe that Tony Knight was still in charge during the Original DISC run so I believe the manufacturer tolerances my be tighter. The bolts will be more uniform and I think that the barreled action from GM would also be tighter than later runs.
Problem one of our members has one that does not seem to follow my thoughts. 'jsteurrys' has one that seems to fall outside the range.
When I got Dave's the first thing I did was install the Lehigh parts - ran it out in the garage and shot a handful of primers. W209's worked great.
Today I decided to make the time to go shoot the gun. Dave had mailed it to me without a scope, I told him I could just drop on a scope and run to the range with it. So I mounted the Powder Horn on his Weaver bases and head out.
That short barreld Camo/Blued Original is a really good shooter. It would/could be a lot better for me but it is not my gun to tinker with. One thing the Warne mounts on top of his Weaver mounts was to high for me. I fashioned a 'comb' left out of some foam rubber insulation I had here but I still was not comfortable on the scope. The second thing - that got me once in awhile was 'trigger creep'. Course that is adjustable but again - not going to mess with another guys trigger. It is all a motter of getting use to the gun.
Took 3 shots @ 25 yards with it. Shot some Lehigh .452/250 grain HP and thought i was darn good!
Moved the target to 50 and decided I had wasted enough Lehigh's so switched over to my favorite paper bullet - Speer Gold Dots - did not do as well @ 50 - but OK for a new to me gun.
Then 75 yards - I really got to thinking about the trigger pull to much and shots 9 & 11 show the results. One of Semi's rules applies here I am sure... But I pulled it all back together with shot 12..
Here is the target....
And here are some additional pictures. The Lehigh functioned great - clean-up is going to be a snap...
