Let me save you some time and trouble
« on: November 28, 2003, 05:00:30 PM »
Gents,

I am placing a big order for brass, bullets, dies, cleaning rods, mounts, etc. This is for Contender and Encore supplies.

I just spent about three hours comparing prices at Midway, Graf and Sons, Wideners, Natchez, Lock Stock and Barrel, and Mid South. I can honestly say that Mid South has all the others beat on price. They are consistently cheaper on most everything I looked at. If they weren't the very cheapest, they were within a few pennies. They also have the easiest to use website. Some of the websites were simply horrible to try to navigate and find what I needed.

Hope my three hour headache will save you some time

Been there - done that... a long time ago.   Came up with about the same answers as you did too.   If I have to order on-line, MidSouth gets the call 99% of the time.    Thanks for posting to help save others from doing the work we've done.

4694,
Thanks for your post.  I had some stuff to order this morning.  Read your post and went to mid south and saved $11 bucks on a Chrony and a few more pennys on 500 Vmax.

Don't over look GBO advertiser D&R Sports. They are the one place that will most often beat Midsouth's prices. They don't carry everything Midsouth does but do carry many items Midsouth doesn't. If they carry it tho you'll be doing yourself a disservice to not check their prices.

I gotta say, rarely has D&R's prices been beat when I have looked.  The only problem with them is with guns, some scopes etc... you have to call them to get a price.  But I have also gotten good prices with MidSouth.

Not always but some times those prices they say you have to call about are actually listed on the web site. I can't say for certain a lower price isn't possible with a call tho.

Most folks who sell to both dealers and indivduals as does D&R won't list gun prices as you must have an FFL to buy anyway. If only they had a toll free # for you to call like MSS that would make the pain less for me at least. Still if they did the prices might not be lower.

Make sure you check the "final price" too. Shipping and handling can vary greatly from site to site. When you look at the price including shipping sometimes that great price just cost you an extra dollar. Most sites you have to get all the way to ordering before you get the REAL shipping charge. Makes it even harder to find the best price sometimes. Don't know about D&R, but I ordered from the Optic Zone even though the listed price of the scope was more than most other places because the final shipped cost was less (free shipping at the time).

I stick with Midsouth out of conveniance, price and selection. Yes, I have to pay 9.25 % sales tax by being a state resident but I work in the same town that they are located in. They don't have a showroom but I can call in my order, tell 'em what time I'd like to pick it up and they'll have it waiting on me at the service entrance. I get the chance to inspect and verify that my order is correct and undamaged before it ever leaves the warehouse. That's a courtesy and good customer service in my book. What I save in shipping costs and sometimes a better price usually makes up for a high state tax. I'd like to do bussiness with Natchez shooters supply but they won't sell to me because of the area of the state I live in. Apparently they sell/supply area retailers and due to a non compete clause they won't accept orders from resident nondealers but a coworker who lives just over the Ky state line can place and order and have it delivered  to a Tennessee address.
Well, it seemed like a good idea at the time....ES
