loads for 454 casull
« on: November 24, 2011, 11:09:35 PM »
i'm going to load 454 & 45 long colts for my rossi m92 . any do's or don'ts for this rifle & cartridge ?
i have some winchester 250gr jhp 454 ammo & will try some magtech 260gr stuff along with some milder 45 long colt 200gr jhp . i will load the cases with win 296 & not sure of what bullets yet .
should i use large rifle primer cases or small rifle primer cases ?
& what primers ? mag rifle or mag pistol or just std ??? probably depends on bullet weight & or powder weight .
& what projectiles are you guy's using ???? i mostly hunt goats & fallow deer but all of our medium game ( in australia ) is on the list . i'd like to try some of the hornady ftx 200gr , 225gr or 250gr projectiles ,but i'm all ears . btw how does the 45 long colt perform on game ??? thanks
ps is it fine to use 45 long colt dies on the 454 ????

You might be interested in this.  I use Reloader7 for my .45-70, so I started with that data and love it in my H&R .45LC Classic Carbine.  ;)  I am using a 300 gr. XTP Magnum bullet.

I was shooting the same bullet in my .45LC Blackhawk so that's why they are sharpied orange.  I can tell even in fairly low light if I grab the wrong bullet.  ;)  It won't hurt the blackhawk persay, but it will make a big fireball for sure..   :o
