I agree with RWK. I have shot several crossbows and find them to be a good tool for an extended hunting season for those wanting or needing to use something other than a bow during archery season. It is too bad that New York Bowhunters Association has so much influence with the NY DEC. They have capable lawyers and plenty of money to be successful in their lobbying efforts with Albany and the ability to use crossbows in archery season in NY remains very bleak. With that said, I join a growing number of sportsmen who no longer are able to draw a bow yet wish to use a crossbow in all seasons. After hunting in NYS for over 50 years using shotguns, handguns, rifles and bows, I hope that the next step by Albany will be an effort to increase hunting and hunters in general by a proactive plan similar to other states. Ohio is an excellent example with their highly successful crossbow season.
Look at the ads and test reports now available for those considering the purchase of a crossbow. The growth of this industry is similar to the growth of bowhunting once compound bows hit the streets many years ago. With the decrease in hunters around the country, supporters of hunting should be working hard to find all ways to turn this trend around. Contact the DEC along with your State Legislators for support in this cause. Our future in New York as hunters depends on all of us.
