They are beautiful.  I had mine out about two months ago. Shot a three leaf clover with 70 grains of Tripple Se7en at 50 yds. with .57 PRB, .15 lubed patch & a rest.  I just cleaned it & packed it up for another year.  I did try some 200 grain cast bullets in a sabot as I try to experiment a little every year.  Failure, only one of three hit the target. In that particular rifle nothing works as great as a PRB.  On my .45 a 140 gr. cast bullet in a sabot work better than PRB. You will get much enjoyment and have a lot of fun to boot shooting it. Good luck with it.

I use a patched round ball and 50 Decigrammes of Pyrodex.  I am not too sure what a Decigrammes is, it is marked on a French adjustable brass measure I got in an antique store in France when I worked there for a while.  I figured it must be close.  It is adjustable from 45 to 55 of those things, so I picked the middle one and it shoots really well.  I would say it is close to the volume of two round balls.  Larry

Thanks guys. I think I will start at 70 and work my way up. What would a max charge be in this rifle?

I shoot Buffalo Ball-ets out of mine .Have used as much as 90gn of Shockeys Gold. But 75 -80 gn is more than enough with the 380 and 405gn Ball-ets. I don't shoot many patched balls mostly just full bore bullets. I just feel it gives me a little more consistancy eliminating the patch step. Kurt

Your starting load should begin equivelant to your bore diameter (ie: 58 grains of 2fg or 3fg blackpowder) and go up OR down from there.  60 grains of 3fg with a 400gn +/- minie is more than enough to go through both sides of a deer at 150 yds.  PRB is great if you like shooting the lightest possible projectile for .58 (about 265gns).  A .58 with a 1:48 to 1:72 twist loves pure-lead, lubed, minies between 315gn (+/- 40gn og FFFg) to 600gn (+/- 75gn FFFg) - adjust accordingly for substitutes.  Your Huntsman is 1-66 and will shoot all minies fine.  Max charge for the .58 Huntsman's are 100gn's of FFg or FFFg blackpowder.

1 decigramme = 0.1 gram = 1.54 grains.

So 50 decigramme = 77 grains

Why be difficult, when with a little extra effort you can be impossible?
