Called Taurus today and they said they dont even have record of that ser.# and did not know what that stamped # was. Ther is also the # H 414 stamped on the frame under the grip and inside the grip and under the right side plate along with the M-659.

Are you sure it's a 5 and not a 669 - maybe just an indistinct stamping?

They did make a model 669, but I can't say i've ever heard of a 659.

Haven't been there for a while, but they used to have a place on their website where you could enter your guns serial number and get the year of manufacture.  Not sure if that was for newer guns or how far the data went back.

Positive it's stamped M-659 but the H 414 is H412, the m-659 is on the grip and under the rihgt side plate,I have dissasimbaly inst. for the 669 and all the parts look the same, so I'm thinking that they mis-stamped it. As far as the sre.# they still have the place to check the ser.# but it comes up as no # in data base. And as far as taurus goes my gun is not in there files.

Is this a fixed sight gun?

The reason I ask is because I seem to remember (not sure by any means!) they made a model 65 that was mechanically the same as the model 66, but had fixed instead of adjustable sights.  Kind of copied S&W's numbering system.

I believe the first designation of the adjustable sight version was model 66, then renamed model 669 for a while, and now is again called the model 66.  I'm wondering if they did the same thing with the fixed sight model 65 - changed the number to 659 for a while??

Only a guess - other than that I have no clue!
