22 smoothbore
« on: July 09, 2010, 06:18:46 PM »
I bought a singleshot 22 smoothbore this week, a Remington bolt. I have been shooting sparrows in the barn with it, they all seem to roost over my boat and lawn mower. I killed the first starling that flew over my head with it, seems to be pretty good to 15 yards or so. Has anyone else tried one of these? Shotgunner

I have a smoothbore in a Savage.  Using crimped shotshells 15 yds is about it.  Try using CCI plastic capped shotshells and you should improve your range.  They work good on pests like rats, red squirrels and chipmunks as well.

:D Shotgunner, when I was a kid in Pa. I had one of these also...I could not remember the make if my life depended on it now...but we had fun with it shooting pest biirds, etc. around the farm....Later, a friend had a chicken house in W. Va. while I was visiting one summer, he found the house was infested with RATS...we spent several days shooting rats with single shot .22's..they were rifled, but that shot killed very well...due to the wires and stuff in the house we couldn't use solid bullets...for a setting around a country house or farm that little gun would be fun and useful.....
