My trip to AIM - Yugo & Albanian SKS
« on: November 25, 2003, 08:13:20 AM »
Had the day off on Monday so decided to take a road trip!(8 hour round trip!)  I decided to drive down to AIM, might as well see the place I'm always sending money too  :-D
I also stopped by Wright-Patterson AFB to take a look around the Air Force Museum.  It had been about 10 years, got to go back soon to spend more time, it's a really neat place.

Anyways, I got to AIM still undecided as to what I wanted to purchase.  I took a look at the last Russian TOZ .22LR they had, for $159.00 it looked like a good deal so I got that.  I decided to get some stablemates for my Russian SKS as well and got a $89 Yugo SKS and an $89 Albanian SKS as well.  The Alby is thick in cosmo with a so-so stock but the metal I could see looked pretty decent, plus they give you a free stock with the purchase.  The Yugo is in great shape, the stock has just a couple of dings (nothing to write home about) and the metal is near perfect.  I cleaned it up a little and every number I found matches.

All in all I think I did quite well, although I have to spend some time with the Alby to get it cleaned up, I still think it will prove to be a good rifle for $89.00
Once again I gotta give a big  :agree: to AIM.

AIM has always done very good for me too.  All my yugo's/albies cleaned up nice.  And Eric's specials can't be beat you just have to watch for them. Right now its free shipping on some sks's.        BigBill

A while back they had "darkbore yugo's" for $79 the one I recieved looks better than the "like new" $149 yugo's he had but the $149 looked good too the $79 was just a tad better looking but had a dark bore.

I have done ok with "AIM,  SOG, Allens Armory and Samco" too.  But with Samco the swede's are hitting the bottom of the barrel my last oberndorf wasn't that great.  So from now on I'll buy swede's only in person.(maybe) I haven't tried Sarco yet but I may for more swede's.  BigBill

I wish that SOG would allow for "walk-in" customers  :( .  I've heard that you can pick-up a firearm that you have ordered (if your a FFL holder and no background check would need to be completed).  Looking through their latest flyer (SOG) they did have some cool stuff that I wouldn't mind purchasing but I had a day to spare and figured I'd drive down to AIM since they allow for walk-in's and they can do background checks.

Like you Joe, I'm about as far north as you can get in Ohio without getting my feet wet in Lake Erie up around Cleveland.  I wish there were a few distributors in Ohio (that allowed walk-in sales) that were closer than 3 1/2 to 4 hours away.  It's kinda nice to see what your getting before the BBT shows up at your door.

Never been there but I knew they existed.  I've seen most of their stuff online.  I figure if I can't come close to purchasing it I don't want to hold one and get worked into a lather.  I'd probably end up doing something rash to get the money  :-D

I saw the write up on the VZ in Shotgun News a few months ago, cool rifle!

AIM Surplus is a wholeseller than has great deals on lot's of different C&R firearms as well as some modern stuff like Bushmasters.  They also sell ammo and other accessories.  I really like there good service and the fact that they represent the condition of the firearms accurately.
