223 WSSM
« on: November 15, 2003, 05:03:26 PM »
Hey i heard of this fairly new bullet, the 223 WSSM. What do you guys think of this round compared to lets say the 22-250 or the regular 223. Also for just plinking and varmint hunting (groundhogs, cayotes, crows)
do u think that the 223 WSSM is good enough. I wont need a 243 WSSM will I.

                                                                               Thanks

well i hear they are about 150-200fps  faster than the 22-250. there currently is now brass or dies available (looked today) what i would like to know is how is the range on them? are they as flat shooting as the 22-250? winchester makes a very nice 223wsm called the black shadow.

The .223 WSSM is about 100 - 150 fps. faster then the .220 Swift if you want to load it up that hot.  I don't.  I prefer to have my barrels last longer.  So far it's showing to be a very accurate cartridge in my M70 Coyote.  Still working with loads due to the shortage of available load data.

It is somewhat flatter shooting than any of the .22-250's that I used to have and the .224 Weatherby's(the ballistic twin to the .22-250) that I do have.  Main thing is with that shorter, stiffer action and that you are using a cartridge design that has been proven to be accurate the .223 WSSM is showing to be even a more accurate combination.  So far I find nothing to complain about either the rifle or the cartridge.  Lawdog

If I can't hit it with the .223 I have now, I don't need to be shootin' at it. I'll stick with the cheap stuff.:cb2:
