Does anyone have any favorite reduced loads for the 7mm Rem. Mag? I'm looking for good accuracy out to 100yds without the recoil and muzzle blast. Any bullet weight is fine. Thanks.

Please be advised that both the SAAMI and the NRA|| T|echnical Advisor have cautioned AGAINST using reduced loads in large over-bore capacity cases, including the 7mm Remington Magnum.

The advisory warns against the possibility of SEE (secondary explosion event?)

This caution applies especially to the use of ball powder in large bottlenecked cases with the powder charge reduced more than 10%.

If I were to load up reduced loads in the 7mm Rem Mag case, I would use IMR 4895, IMR 4064, or IMR 3031 in reduced charges to approximate 7x57 velocities.

Thanks for the warning. I am mindful of S.E.E., and as you suggest, I tend to stick with the extruded, IMR-type powders (actually, I am hoping for a good IMR4895 load). I just can't justify beating myself up at the bench with full or near full power loads. Most of my fun with rifles comes from load development and testing. I guess that's why I tend to gravitate to the older small capacity (=more efficient) cartridges.

Like John said you need to be careful when reducing the load but I have got a 7mag. and lately have become recoil sensitive (getting old I guess ) but I have dropped the weight of the bullets I shoot down to the 140 range and shoot IMR-4895 with 46 gr. up to 55 gr and it has done well for me.

Over on the Finnish site, Gunwriters on the Web, there has been a thread on Catsneeze loads, and the consensus seems to go with faster powders in small quantities. The S.E.E. issue seems tamed with fast powders in minute amounts, but powder position becomes an issue.

Thanks for the advice. I've had a fair amount of experience with the smaller to mid-capacity cases and reduced loads, but don't have a lot experience with the magnums. I'll be trying "medium" IMR4895 loads and possibly some catsneeze loads (but, probably not at 100 yds

)
