16 oz Mercury recoil surpressor
« on: July 15, 2010, 12:37:00 PM »
I have a couple of rifles a couple 45-70's a .54 and a 300 win Mag that I want to install recoil reducers.  I looked under the FAQ's and saw that there is some good information on the use of these.  MPC sports has a 7/8x5" in a 16 oz.  Does anyone know if the hole diameter has to be changed/enlarged for one of these to fit?  I have the ability to make the hole larger if necessary but why bother if there is a better solution that having to do that.  Thanks for the assist.  ;D
Why is there never enough time to do it right but there is always enough time to do it again?

I have 3 of the same reducers in 3 of my H&R's, Two slid right in no problem, the 45-70 and 12ga turkey
gun. The Trap Gun I had to remove the silver foil cover and it slid. They work well and I got them from
MPC also who I believe is offering reduced shipping this week.   Fred

Hello, I thinks we have talked. I use a large limbsaver slip on pad on my Choite Surviver stock. I only have one frame for my 6 barrels. I put about 1lb of shot in a ziplock bag in the bottom half of the stock and the limbsaver. It seems to be balanced with all the barrels. I have a 12g barrel and before this it would kill me. Now I can shoot any barrel with max loads all day. I will never take it off. Plus it added enough length to the stock to be comfortable for me to site and shoot. Recoil is not an issue anymore for me. I just can't see anything over 100y.

The ones I use you need a 3/4 inch hole. Do a web search on mercury recoil reducers and they *&* will show up at the top of the list. I have used them in synthetic stocks by foaming a piece of 3/4 PVC in the butt stock. Just make sure they are oriented so the mercury sets in the butt end of the stock when shouldered.

I had a Tracker II 20g that was too light. I put 20oz #8 shot in the stock and added a Limbsaver. Went from 5 shot maximum session, to a shoot all day proposition. The shot came from a box of 25 shells, and the Limbsaver cost $20 at Walmart.

I'm a little fellow (165lbs), and my BC kicks pretty bad with 405's.  At the range, sitting at a bench, the recoil is amplified; however, I simply stuff something up my shirt sleeve to keep from getting bruised.  Hunting, I don't even feel the recoil.  I'm not sure we need recoil supressors.
