Trapper in 35 rem
« on: September 03, 2010, 06:21:46 AM »
I want to build a trapper style carbine in 35 Rem.  The plan is to order a Spikehorn buttstock for the shorter LOP and cut the barrel to 16.5". Will the mag tube from a Spikehorn accommodate the 35 Rem cartridge? I know it was for the 30/30, but I am unsure of the interior diameter.

If that doesn't work, then I will get the current tube cut down as well.

As for sights, I want the XS sights with an XS lever scout mount to back it up.

Whaddya think?

I'm thinking two things:

1) Cut the .35 mag tube.   ::)

2) Anyone with the chops to shorten their own barrel/mag should also be able to shorten the issue buttstock, too.   ;D

I dearly love the trapper length marlins but really the 35 & 30-30 both are at their best in the 24" tubes.  ;)
