Need Help - 24" Barrel vs 26" Barrel
« on: November 29, 2003, 04:44:09 PM »
I am new to the Encore rifle but am very interested and am confused on the barrels offered by TC.  Their website shows some calibers such as 270 Win being offered in 24" length.  It also shows other calibers such as 7mm Rem Mag being offered in 26" length.  I also read in a catalog that the 26" TC barrels are "heavy" weight.  Other than the two inches in length can someone describe the differences in these barrels?  Also if there is a contour difference, what is the muzzle diameter of the 24" versus the 26".  Thanks for your help with this!

Not sure if this will help - but my barrel is a heavy barrel 26" from TC encore - and it matches pretty well with the size given:

barrel profile/weight are available. For example:
Full bull target barrel at one inch diameter to the muzzle.
Heavy Varmint taper to muzzle diameter of .850 inch.
Medium Varmint taper to muzzle diameter of .800 inch.
Light Varmint taper to muzzle diameter of .750 inch.
Heaver Sporter taper to muzzle diameter of .700 inch.
Medium Sporter taper to muzzle diameter of .650 inch.
Light Sporter taper to muzzle diameter of .600 inch.

This came from Bullberry's barrels:

I belive the 24" factory is .75 at the muzzle and the 26" is .80.

TnEncore is right on the money with the size. Even though my factory 26" barrel is marked Heavy barrel as shown with the bullberry barrels mine is the same as the Medium Varmint taper to muzzle diameter of .800 inch. If my little calibrator is right (its only about 50 years old).

I own 2 24inch barrels, the light .223 barrel at the muzzle is .720 dia. (measured with a mic) and my 24inch 6mm Remington barrel is .820 dia. at the muzzle.  The 6mm is a stainless barrel from FoxRidge and the .223 is a TC factory release.

Hope that sheads some light on it for you

:D Don't take this for gospel but I believe the 24 inch barrels from TC come with front and rear sites and the 26 inch barrel come with no sights (no holes either) on muzzle and drilled for scope mounts only on other end.  Ed
