Which used gun to get
« on: July 24, 2010, 08:47:53 AM »
 :)  Hello all,

Question - looking at a lot of great older used guns and new ones.  Want a all around field shotgun I have a upland bird gun already so would be looking mostly at waterfowl and occasional pheasant/grouse.

So the question is  ??? what guns can handle steel shot?  When looking at older guns like Win Mod 12s or Browning Auto-5s can they or are they regulated to led only?

Can all new guns handle steel such as the Rem 870s and the cheaper foreign doubles?  Several years back they did not recommend Remington barrels for steel shot.  So how do I know what is safe to buy or not.

I have heard that soon we may have to go to "Non-Toxic" shot for everything to even include upland and squirrel?   :o  Thanks Old Moss

Keep steel and many of the hard non toxic shot out of older guns. None of the M12s or Browning guns were made to take it. Any barrel with factory screw in choke tubes should be fine with it with correct choke tubes in place.
