309jdj cases
« on: December 03, 2003, 02:06:57 AM »
What is the procedure for making cases for the 309jdj? From what I understand you fire(fireform)30/30 through the bbl to make the cases,Question is do you then have to size the cases in a 309jdj die?Who sells these? SKS only?Is there more to this? Thanks SGB

DO NOT SHOOT A 30/30 IN A 309JDJ BARREL!!!!!
DO NOT SHOOT A 30/30 IN A 309JDJ BARREL!!!!!
DO NOT SHOOT A 30/30 IN A 309JDJ BARREL!!!!!

Geez, where does this kind of crap get its start?   Where did you get the barrel?   Didn't that source give you any information at all about it?   Any load data?   Geez!

The 309JDJ IS NOT based on the weak 30/30 case pard.   It IS based on the very strong 444 Marlin case and DOES have to be formed with dies before it can be fireformed.   There are several steps and several ways to accomplish this - safe ways.

I'm on my 3rd SSK 309JDJ barrel... drop me an email and I'll try to help keep you from getting yourself hurt, or worse.

309JDJ Brass
« Reply #4 on: December 03, 2003, 04:21:00 AM »
SGB, do you have any 309JDJ brass at all. I have some that has been fired a few times that I could trade you for something if you wanted but you still have to use the 309JDJ dies to load them. I did load a few while I was waiting on my dies from SSK Industries with a 308 die but I think I messed up about every other case.
The 444 Marlin case is pretty easy to obtain and not to costly.
This is by far my favorite barrel. I have taken whitetail out to 235 yds with it and just hammered them. I'm carrying it this season and my Ruger Blackhawk in 45 LC. 309 for long shots, 45LC for inside of 80yds.
Here is a photo of my 309JDJ set up for hunting.

Sure there is. Go ALL THE WAY to the bottom of ANY post by him or anyone else for that matter if you want to e-mail them. At the very bottom on the left in blue you'll see the following words: Back to top

Now look directly to the right of that. You'll see a whole line of icons. They are in order. PROFILE, PM, E-MAIL and if applicable WWW. Click on the one that says E-MAIL and you'll get a pop up box to e-mail him thru the site e-mail system.

Answered that question in the email I sent you last night.   Have fun with that  barrel, if you get it.

HEY HAWKEYE,
What load are you shooting in your 309? I just aquired an SSK in 309 from my hunting/shooting buddy that has a break on it. I've been doing my handgun hunting with my s/s Virgin Valley Encore in 7mm-08 with break and a Ruger SRH 44. I have dies, brass and bullets of all sizes but was leaning towards the 150 or 165 grainers. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
