Cannon and Mortar Swabs the easy way
« on: July 24, 2010, 11:30:12 AM »
I make swabs for my cannons and mortars this way:

The cup washer I get at Wal-Mart.

Wagner Paint Stripper.

1/2 inch CVPC pipe.

Cut of the cup washer handle as indicated.

Heat the end of the CVPC pipe with the Paint Stripper for a few minutes.

Push cup washer handle into pipe.

The cup washer without the CVPC handle work well on mortars.

The cup washers can be cut to any shape or size.

Adding a sock allows the use of a clean surface for swabing.  Wash the socket first they absorb water better after washing.

Looks very practical, and I've got a bag of socks that have lost their twin or are otherwise not good for much other than polishing wheels.  :D

The dollar store by me has various round, handled dishwashing sponges and bottle brushes. A couple of the brushes are perfect sizes for my 1" and golf ball bores so that's what I use to clean them with. On top of that, the low cost means they can be considered disposable (but I've been using the same two for a couple years now; they last a long time).
