SB2, the cast iron SB1 wouldn't last very long at 50kpsi, if at all.  :o

How can I tell for sure that it is the SB2 frame and has not been swapped or anything?

Remove the barrel.  If it has a skeletonized frame - it should be an SB2.  The only way it would be an SB1 is if someone pulled a really bone-headed swap.

You have to remove the stock to see the skeletonized tang of the SB2, the SB1 is solid around the stock bolt hole, otherwise the differences aren't real remarkable unless you have both to compare side by side, see the pics in the FAQs.

Thanks Tim.  That's what I meant.  Senior moments can be dangerous or at least confusing.

Tim mentioned a second way to tell if it is an SB1, shoot a 50,000 psi round in it. :P  Well, actually it might tell the coroner what type of frame it was but maybe the shooter would never know. :o

Good point Tom, that why I put all my rifles on SB2s.  No chance of mixup.  The only SB1s I own are on the .410 and the 20 ga......12 too I hope soon.

Went and looked at the rifle and bought it this evening.I did not really want the 500S&W barrel but it was too good of a deal to pass up. It is 98%+   NW serial number with the P on the bottom of the reciever. Now to figure out which barrel I want to trade for.

I like mine.  It is now a shorty with a simple flat, polished crown and it shoots the Hornady FTX bullets very accurately at 50 yards.  That's plenty good enough for me since it is a good brush gun/short range thumper (and then some).  If I want a thrill, I just load up some heavier cast bullets.
