Its not so much the distance, but the group size and energy. When I shoot at a 6x6 bull at 325 yards, I want to know exactly where the bullet will hit, and that it will still have the energy to drop him. My magnums will do the job cleanly, so why experiment? But that's just me. I don't like them to get away. I've never had to track an elk more than 50 yards or so.
