Arrows??Suggestions
« on: July 29, 2010, 01:52:58 PM »
I'm thinking about getting some fletched Traditional Only carbon arrows from Three Rivers. I'm shooting a Black Widow PMAIII #46@28" and my arrow length is 30". What deflection should I get? Can anyone suggest other arrows and sources I should consider?

just got some of the beman ics in the 340 size but mine are 31 and 1/4 at 58 lbs. you should probably get the 400s. I was skeptical of shooting a carbon out of my recurve but I am happy. Im using the 100 grain broad head adapter with 125 gr zwickeys.

Swampman,
I would look at the carbon express arrows and go to their website and they have a complete table for selecting the correct deflection for your particular weifght of bow! In my 45# Dakota I use the carbon 500 arrow with a magnus two blade at 125 grains! Good accurate setup!

The 400s should work well for you at 30 inches.  Just don't go too heavy with the heads.

I'll probably use 125s.

I like wood but I miss sometimes.

I have found this dynamic spine calculator very helpful

http://heilakka.com/stumiller/

I use Easton powerflyte 500's , 50 grain muzzy brass incert, 125 gr point, 3 5" feathers for my 44# recurve and 45# Tradtech Pinnacle with deflex reflex limbs. They shoot very well. I'd bet 400's would be too stiff unless you bumped the FOC right up. Check it on the spine calculator - it's amazingly accurate.

I bought a set of Gold Tip Traditional 600's for my 34# recurve 125 gr points 30 gr alloy incert , 3 $.5" feathers. They are a very tough durable shaft so I'd say the stiffer spines would be equally as tough

I have used 3 Rivers for the past 2 years since I switched from compound to traditional.   They have been very knowledgable and helpful.   I shoot a 45# Martin longbow/28" draw.   I let 3 Rivers set me up with arrows (Carbon Express, feathers) & heavy single bevel two blade broadheads.    they fly just like the field points and penetrate to no end.   I am hoping to take a big hog this year with this setup.  Good luck with your choices.  let us know how it works.

I shoot wood arrows. My practice arrows I make myself, my hunting arrows are built by Bob Burton at Whispering Wind Arrows  www.whisperingwindarrows.com  You can buy cheaper arrows, but I don't think you can buy better arrows.

I shoot 33" Goldtip feather fletched carbon arrows that are around 9-10 grains per inch with 145 grain heads.(I have a 65lb recurve) I get good flight out of them, and I've had them for around 10 years with a little re-fletching(not counting the two I lost in the weeds  ;D)
