hows the recoil of a 260Rem XP-100 vs TC Super 14 7-30Waters
« on: November 24, 2003, 05:48:07 AM »
A friend has damaged wrists. He's wondering how the recoil of a XP-100 [or XP-100R] compares to a Contender 14"[unported]7-30 Waters?
He's considering either for deer.
Thanks.

The weight of a XP-100R should be more than a Contender, so I would GUESS tha the XP would be gentler than the 7x30 W in a TC.

I've shot a 7-30 set up as a carbne and used to own a 260 Encore pistol, I don't think you'd be able to tell the difference in recoil.

My load from a disk program says a 7-30 Waters in a 4 lb firearm shooting a 120 gr bullets gives 15.3 ft lbs of recoil.  A 260 rem firing the same weight bullet in the same weight gun gives 19.2 ft lbs.  As a comparison a 44 Mag gives 18.1 ft lbs.

Try a 300 Whisper (300-221) if you want a very mild recoiling gun.
Recoil would be 8.4 ft lbs based on the comparison above.
