New Vanguard Sporter

Picked up my new Vanguard Sporter in 270win. The guy at cabelas said the Rosewood tip is just stained. Not real wood. Weatherby says " Rosewood Forend ". Does anybody know the story on this?

It really is a rosewood forend tip. The drone at Cabela's is talking through his hat. Some of the vanguard stocks have a more pronounced contrast between the tips and stock than others. Mine is very obviously a different piece of wood.

  Mine doesn't have a cap on it. I think i bought it about 20 years ago. If it shoots as good as mine you will be very happy with it. A lot different than my Vanguard in 22-250. The dealer or i couldn't get that piece of junk to shoot worth a darn. He sent it back to the factory. Weatherby returned it to him with a note in the box saying if i wanted a target rifle i should have bought one. I traded it for a Ruger 22-250. Best move i ever made. I had all kinds of problems with a 240 Weatherby Lazermark too. Weatherby was of no help with that either. I traded that for a Ruger 250-3000. Sorry for the rant. I am just not sold on Weatherby. I sure didn't answer you question did i?

I've had 2 Weatherby rifles in the past 3 years..both have been excellent shooters. You can get a lemon with anyones rifles now-a-days..

Thos Vanguard rifles have come a long way from when first made. VG looking rifle with a nice price. Looks on the order of thier Mark #5 rifles. Good luck which ever way you go. Thier are so many rifle today making a decision what to buy is really hard. I use to buy Remington rifles, but now I lean towards Savage. Just got a F class 6BR and it will drive tacks but of course it will lighten your pocket book. But thier new line of rifles are really nice and are VG shooters. Lou

I have a Vanguard in .223 Remington caliber, and it's a tack driver for sure.

A lot of rifle for reasonable cash outlay.
