Bad bullet performance

Thought I would give some info on a load I worked up this summer.

I spent all summer working up a load for a 270.  It was using the combind technology nosler/winchester ballistic tips in 130 grain.  I was getting right 3000 fps and shooting about 1/4 groups in a abolt 270.  I was very happy until the first deer was shot.  So far to date 4 deer has been shot with 2 recovered.  We had very little blood and at times no blood.  Not one bullet passed through and had very little tissue damage.

Internal damage was good but that was about it.  I now no longer use this load for deer.  Thought I would pass this along.

Poeple seem to love or hate the Ballistic tip.  I like exit hole so I stopped using them too.  The partition works better for me, or the failsafe or X bullet

Your performance is about what is to be expected with that bullet. It expands violently and doesn't penetrate as well as conventionally jacketed bullets. It will generally give full penetration on broadside chest shots but not necessarily on other shot presentations. If you want an exit (and I do) then it really isn't the bullet for you. That's the Partition in the Nosler line.

i havent recoved a nosler ballistic tip yet.  i would try the new accubond or the very good swift scirocco bullet.  the new hornady interbound bullets would also be a good one.

if all eles fails use the barnes X bullet.
