Remington 700 classic in 35 whelen

I have been thinking about getting one of these.  Does anybody know what twist rate they have?  Is it 1:16?  Also, is a faster twist rate like 1:10 better for heavier or lighter bullets as compared to 1:16?

1 in 16 I believe.     I haven't shot anything heavier then 225 gr out of mine... yet!

I bought one of those when they came out (1988-89?)  Great shooter with 250 Partitions; poor with 200 grainers.  Another rifle I wish I'd of kept.  Cabelas up the road has one priced at twice what I paid--

Do you think the twist had anything to do with the lighter bullets shooting lousy?

The Remington website says it's a 1:16" twist, click specifications to the right of the orange overview button.
