stock painting/coloring
« on: August 06, 2010, 01:15:02 PM »
I just recently bought a bell and carlson stock but it seems that the only  colors i can find in stock are black or black with a gray web. the grey web is 25 bucks more any where I look. I ended up getting the black stock and I was wondering what was the best way to color it or paint it. I've heard of a dura coat that doesn't need to be oven baked. Any one used it? of have other methods?

B&C can paint it all manner of colors, as well as camo patterns. Give them a call.  Personally I use Polane paint, a two part catalyzed urethane. It's the same stuff McMillan uses, but it is not for home use since it is very toxic. KG industries makes an air cure stock paint, but it doesn't work very well. Some of the Krylon camo colors aren't too bad on stocks, just not as durable as the catalyzed paints.

Hi,

I paint plastic stocks alot and I use Krylon satin so it won't mar and doesn't shine.  You can also use their fusion paint which is made for plastic and a bud of mine used their pebble finish and it has a nice textured feel.  They have a web spray as well that you can apply over a solid color...2 coats and and then 2 coats of satin clear and you are good to go.  If you want real camo patterns of some kind...well...you're on your own I guess....
