Shot Shell Crimp
« on: August 11, 2010, 04:28:47 PM »
What do you guys use to open up the crimp on shot shells. The reason i ask buddy of mine gave roughly 50 rnds of shot shells that were in a flood primers starting to corrode. Thought i would open them up and dump the shot and throw the rest away.

if I do not want to save the hull, I personaly use a droumal tool with a cut off wheel and cut off the top of the shell right below the crimp.

If the primers and all are rusting they shot may not be the best .

Thanks Rickyp don't own a dremmel tool thought about using a utility knife but was hopping some one had a faster idea. As for the condition of the lead if its corroded i will smelt it and use for casting bullets.

Led shot is not the best for casting bullets it has a high leveal of arsnic and will not let the bullets fill out well.

Be careful with teh knife as the hulls are tough to cut.
