Ultra slug chamber

Hello, Please forgive me if someone has already posted this topic, I searched for it but found nothing.
I am looking into a 12 ultraslug; However i am interested in shooting up some 3.5 inch Lightfields i have laying around- some 90 rounds or so, gander was blowing them out for 5 bucks a box and at the time I had a Rem Supermag. Anyway has anyone out there rechambered the Ultra slug to 3.5? Is it even possible?

I'd say take it to a local smith and get an estimate.  If he says it's do able and gives you a price, just check the price versus the price to rent the reamer and pay shipping.  See which way's better once you know he'll do it.    Some of the experienced modders will probably reply with a more definitive post.

They did it for the 3.5 20ga I don't know why you could not do it for the 12ga. Kurt

So i made a call to H&R, to get thier take on this mod. Although the techrep I spoke to did not tell me it was ok to do it, he did say that the ultraslug 12ga is the same reciever as the 10ga which handles the 3.5" round.

I called Josh (my local smith) and his price to do the mod and mount my scope is $175.00. This price seems fair to me as the reamer is like 200.00 to buy, and in all honesty im not experienced enough to tackle such a task.

It kinda breaks down like this, new thumbhole ultra= 350.00+175.00= $525.00 (lol I can add) The gun would be an awesome monster but 500 bucks worth, I'm not sure. I put the supermag up for sale and maybe if it sells i will invest in this.

Other than being unique I really don't see the need for the 3.5 chamber... but then who am I to say I got a few Custom chambered H&R's that really don't make sence but did them just because. Another option is to sell your surplus 3.5 slugs to some one with a Mossberg Ulti Mag slug bbl. Not sure if the company that did the 3.5 20ga modification for the Hastings slugs and the limited edition H&R 20ga is still around or if they did 12ga also but IIRC that chamber mod was $110. Good luck with whatever ytou decide and keep us posted. Kurt
