Dad is starting to get out and shoot his 1985-7 era Remington 7400 30-06. He is asking me if I can do anything with his trigger group to make for a more consistent trigger pull. I have done some searching on the web and have not really found anything useful other than a trigger sear spring and some drop in parts. I'm not a trained gunsmith and am NOT going to attempt to grind the engagement surfaces with ANYTHING. I did check his trigger pull weight with the Lyman digital gauge and his trigger is breaking at 2.13lbs on average. It feels a little like a two stage trigger with a little takeup, but I don't think it breaks exactly clean. We went out and shot it today and I found that if you "snapped" the trigger rather than gently squeeze it, the gun shoots better, which is ass backwards.
The trigger pull weight is fine, but what can a smith or I do to get a creep free/smooth trigger in this autoloader? Is there a smith anywhere that specializes in such an animal or is this a losing battle?
