Quite a bit.  Check out gunbroker.com or auctionarms.com

depending on the variant and condition i have seen most between 1500 for the  standard a2, 2500 for the m-4  and the 9mm around 1600-1800

OK, for someone who's not overly into AR's, how do you know if it's a pre-ban or not.

I've got an AR that I purchased in the late 1980's - early 1990's that I have wondered if it is a pre-ban or not.  It came with a threaded barrel but no bayonet lug.  The box(which I still have, by the way) has a blue label.

So, what do I have?

I think you can go to ar15.com(I think it is the page) and use the serial number to get manufactures date.  Other wise contact the maker and ask.

to my knowlege, if no bayonet lug then it is a post ban gun.   it is possible that it is a varient that is a pre ban.  when did you buy it?  the ban went into effect in the early 90's, '94 i believe.  if it has a threaded barrel, be carefull what you thread on there.  a flash suppressor could land you in hot water.

I don't remember exactly when I purchased it, but I know it was definitly prior to 1993.

The gun was produced after the first "assalt weapon" panic in 1988 and before 1993(these are landmarks in time I can remember because I sold my first AR in 1988 to help finance the purchase of my first house and we moved from that house in 1993 and I had the second AR a while before that.)

I'm thinking about selling the rifle, and need to know what it's worth before I move forward and determining wether it's a pre-ban or not will help in that avenue.  I'm fairly sure it is Pre Ban, but before I advertise it as such, I want to be sure.

Maybe it's just where I live but I have been assured by my law enforcement buddies that the only way they would ever make an issue out of a post ban/pre ban  faux pas is if the guy was using the arm in question in the commision of a felony. I have several pre ban uppers and use them on my post ban lowers all the time. Of course, I don't live in Kalifornia, either. Has anyone actually known someone who got in hot water over this law?
Perception is everything. For instance, a crowded elevator smells different to a midget.
