New Dan Wesson .45 ACP semi-auto pistol?
« on: August 05, 2003, 03:27:13 PM »
I was looking at the new Dan Wesson .45 ACP semi-auto pistol at my local gunshop and it was real tempting.  Is the slide made of stainless steel, as it appeared to be blued, yet it has a brushed look to it?

How are they in general?  One guy told me they were offering a version of the gun with a Jarvis barrel. :)

Thanks

Check out the Dan Wesson forum at http://www.1911forum.com/forums/
The president of the company even posts there. You will see comments both good and bad about the guns. (As you will about any company.) The difference is they provide outstanding customer service. They make several models of 1911 style pistols. I have one of the Patriot models which is an upper end gun. It is the most accurate production 1911 I have ever shot. I love it and have no complaints. I don't think you will be disappointed if this is the gun you choose.

I've been shooting a Dan Wesson Point Man 7 for about 8 months.
Excellent pistol. Extremely accurate and no feeding problems, once I polished the ramp. Best .45 auto I've owned. Shoots better than I can see... :-)

I have 2 DW 1911's.  A Pointman Seven and a Razorback and l am pleased with both.  I've seen the Panther and Patriot lines in the gun shop and they look pretty good too.  As said before, 1911 forum has one for the DW and on the whole seem positive but some have complaints.  I'd certainly consider getting another one in a commander size frame.

They make theeee best 1911's for the money. Just no one knows. I bought a pointman minor for $490 new !!!!!!!  Their entry level gun shoots beter than any $900 Kimber.  People don't realize they have a custom shop that will do most special requests. Check this: They made for me a match grade 10mm upper (mated slide to frame, match barrel, bushing and adjustble sights) for my pointman frame for guess what? $400.  I haven't shot it yet but i expect it to be awesome

i must say that when i was looking-bought another kind for a varity of issues/reasons-i was extremely impressed by all the information and comments here AND there.
the weapon feedback was very positive in my hands. did not have the opportunity to shoot one-hovever, i have shot 1911's previously and my skills do not match many weapons anyway.
i liked the responses i found on customer service, qc, and components. came within a hairs breath of buying. possibilites exist that my desires will overide my reason and that i will get a 1911 in the future. a dan wesson leads the way at the present--but-- well there is another new 1911 out there and one would have too take a hard look at it also.

The 1911 has really come into its own, now, as a medium and small game hunting platform since Kimber raised the bar on quality.  10mm, .45 super, .460 rowland will all kill dear and even black bear in the right gun. and .38 supers and 9X23 are flat shooting varmint cartridges.   KImbers and Dan wessons will now give you  all the accuracy you need at open sight, hand gun ranges.  Gawd, and they are a dream to clean after you shoot too :D
