Who else is ready for Dove season?

Got my shells reloaded and ready to go... using a chilled lead 7shot load this year.  Been scouting for about a week and it seem we have a good number of birds here this year.  Already took the 1st of Sept off work.

That goes under the heading of "not quite". I am off 4 days for the labor day weekend and going to oldest sons where he says he has a place for me to hunt. I have plenty of ammo, 6,7 1/2, 8 s. I am still working on the guns. I am trying to trade things around. I am supposed to be trading a welder I have for a new TDC 20ga. I also have a 28 ga 870 Express that I may be swapping for a 28 ga uplander or a 20 ga coach gun. If I do either of those trades, they will be going along. If not, then a Savage O/U trap gun 12 ga, and a Mossberg Silver Reserve O/U 20 ga. I bought myself a new dove bucket, a few decoys, got out the lightweight camo outfits, my wife has the recipes out and the fixin's standing by. What I need now is some luck, cooperative birds, and for the traders to make up their mind. Either way it will be good, better, or wonderful.Good luck to all.

In Ohio, Dove & Early Goose both start on Sept 1st.  I hunt on a couple of farmer's field with some friends.  The geese are early and the doves come in after the geese are gone.  Since I don't go back to the truck, I have to use #6 steel shot on the doves.  Once or twice I forgot to unload the "T" shot and load the light stuff for the doves.  Needless to say "T" shot is overkill for a dove. :P  Good luck on the opener.

Got my father's Belgium Browning Auto-5 Light Twelve 12 gauge all set to go! Setting in my gunsafe and just itching to get out for the birds! Couldn't count how many birds have been taken with that firearm. My father bought it the year I was born, I am 53.......do the math....that's lots of birds..LOL.

to say im ready is an understatement, brought the first load of "supplies" for my annual week of "solitude" at the hunting shack.
Ill have My 410's  (I survivor, 1 topper, 1 o/u, 1 sxs), my nova 20ga, my auto 5 12ga, hopefully a tamer 20 this week if I can find one. and a host of other handguns/rifles etc.

Pretty much just stay at the shack, on a good day I can shoot em while sitting in the shade of my equipment shop, lol. Gonna try and do some fishing, Carp in the creek, and going to try to bow fish one, if I can get a set up. Oh LOTS of eating, napping, some projects more napping then more dove hunting and grilling.

I CANT WAIT!!!   ;D ;D ;D

I can't wait.Got the old Wingmaster oiled up and ready to go. I converted my 410 Tamer so my son could use it. This will be his first dove season. I might carry my 20 Pardner I put together and try her out. ;D

I'm getting ready.
Have shoots planned for 9-10,11 & 16, so far.
Ordered a 20 ga Benelli Montefeltro today.
Should have it Friday or Monday.

Well, a door closes, and one opens. My trades fell through, but another 3 way deal went through and I got a 28ga Mossberg SR that matches my 20ga, so I guess its 3 O/U's. I am still trying to swap the welder for a TDC 20 ga though. Did some patterning , had to order 2 new chokes, plan to shoot the 28 to 30-35, 20 to 35-40, and the 12 40 and +. The 28 uses 3/4 oz of 8's, the 20 7/8's of 7.5's, and 1 1/8 of 7's in the 12. All I need now are birds.  ;D This has me more enthuiastic than I have been on deer season for some time.

Seems like I am seeing more doves this year (NW Ohio) than I have seen in a few years.  However, I have seen very few geese, but dove tastes better so no big deal. Guess I will know how the bird hunting will go on the 1st of Sept. ;D  If the birds are weak, it will be off to the woods in search of tree rats.

  I live near Bikerbeans in NW Ohio,  I went out yesterday morning for doves and seen nothing !!
  I was hunting on a small island on the Maumee river where the doves usually pass over to go feed but the feilds are all still standing .  I just bought a nice old H & R  M 48 in 410 and took it to hunt with, didnt fire a shot, It should get better soon I hope.     Jedman

I wasnt able to get in a good hunt yet, able to get 2,  Too busy chasing the coyotes around, **TIP** while calling coyotes, turn the dang cell phone off, it sounds nothing like something they would eat  ;D :-[

Going out again this weekend, vacation got cut short due to a very sick dog, and had to come home, but going to head out again for the long weekedn and hopefully be cooking up some dove Fajitas very soon!

According to a friend of mine, cell phones are also not on the menu for the whitetail deer. :P
