RCBS Kinetic Bullet Puller

The piece of felt(?) in the bottom of the puller has completely broke down and is not protecting the bullets as they are pulled. Has anyone ever replaced this piece and if so, what did you use? Thx for any help

I've never replaced one but why couldnt you use something like a cotton ball. If you call rcbs im sure they will just send you one they are under warranty.

I have the Quinetics puller, it doesn't come with a pad, but a couple cleaning patches work just fine.

A cork might do it.  I like the RCBS puller since the bullets are not harmed at all in my experience.  I have, however, severely chewed up the end of it by hitting the concrete floor and my Quinetics has survived many more hits with less damage.

I just use a cheap earplug , the round yellow ones hold up the best , but any of them will work .

I just use a cleaning patch dropped down in the bottom of my Quinetics hammer. It's been in there for many years, hasn't crumbled or broken.

I guess it's working fine for me?

Interesting.  I have never purposefully noticed and feel certain that I do not have a piece of felt in the bottom of my RCBS Kinetic Puller.  I have used it for nearly 20 years this way and the bullets are not affected.  The powder is always recovered.  Nothing "sticks" to the bottom of the puller.  Using cotton balls or some "thread type" substitute would tend to stick some of the powder in there.  I like the ear plug idea.

I solved the problem by throwing mine in the trash and bought a RCBS puller that mounts in the press. If used correctly it does not harm the bullet. Have shot a number of bullets that have been pulled by this method beside new out of the box bullets and can't tell any difference in them.

I'll assume that my RCBS puller is too old to have the latest technology of a felt piece in the bottom of it as there never has been one. I wouldn't worry about it as I've never deformed a bullet over the many years I've used mine. But if you have a lot of bullets to pull, a collet type is certainly the best.

I used to use a rubber washer on the bottom of mine when I used one.  One of those thick hard rubber ones.  Interestingly enough...the bullet nose from a spitzer type went into the hole of the washer and the bullet looked as good as new.  Don't use it anymore...collets for me.

Thanks for all the ideas. I probably should just buy a collet puller, or stop testing so many bullets!
